MEEKER I Champions were crowned Sunday at the Meeker Golf Course after the annual Club Championships were played, and both champions have worn the crown several times before.
Pattie Terp and J.C. Watt defended the titles they won last year, but they were humbled by their play.
“I didn’t play particularly well; I just beat the other ladies that day,” Terp said of her fifth club championship. Terp has won five of the last 10 club titles, including back-to-back titles after shoulder surgery three years ago.
Terp shot an 89 in the field of seven players, including Peggy Back, who finished three shots behind Terp and took to net honors.
Meeker’s J.C. Watt isn’t afraid to laugh at himself as he posed underneath a poster of his mug after winning another Men’s Club championship title. Larin Crase is credited with taking the photos of Watt and two of his golfing companions, who refused to have their picture taken under their respective posters.

In the men’s field, which featured 18 players, Watt led Bobby Castaldo by three shots, shooting an even par 34 on the first nine. However, he only beat Castaldo in the end by one.
“I fell apart on the back nine,” Watt, who has won several club titles, said. “I was up four on Bobby with three holes to play.”
Castaldo finished with a 74, two strokes ahead of Scott Bowman. Veteran golfers Harry Watt and George Back tied for the best net score (61) and Kyle Frary was third.
The OFIC will be played Sept. 14.
