MEEKER I The Cowboys are in the last week of the regular season and are on a 13 game win streak.
“We had three tough games last week,” commented head coach Klark Kindler. “We played Snake River Thursday; we were ahead 3-2 and then they had a run and we didn’t get back the lead until 35 seconds into overtime. Once we got the lead we finished the game on top.”
Final score in overtime was 55-49. Three Cowboys broke double digits, Liam Deming with 14 points, Zagar Brown with 12, Zach Simonsen with 11 and Casey Brink with 10.
Friday in front of a home crowd the Cowboys came away with another win and a very important one for the league title.
“Cedaredge we played well and really defended well but didn’t shoot the ball really well in the first half, but once we did we got up 16 or 18 points and were able to end the game well,” said Kindler.
Meeker came out on top 57-41 led by Brown with 15 points and Deming with 14 points.
The 13th win in the streak came Saturday when the Cowboys bested the Dragons 44-29.
“Saturday in DeBeque they were a lot more athletic than I thought they would be,” wrapped up Kindler, “and we struggled at the free throw line. Going into the fourth we were only up 12-14 points and hit some shots and were able to coast after that.”
The boys now have two more games in the regular season. Thursday against Plateau Valley and then Friday against Hayden, both away games. If they win these games they seal the league and will not be playing in a pigtail on Tuesday.
