– Wednesday was the first anniversary of the attempted robbery of the Bank of Meeker. The disastrous outcome of that hold-up needs no special reminder to most of our citizens.

– The triangular fight for most of the county offices is getting interesting as the campaign progresses. Mud-slinging seems to be the stock-in-trade with a few of the candidates, but the intelligent voter should carefully avoid taking stock in eleventh-hour tales. By so doing there will be no occasion to kick yourself after election when you learn the story was a falsehood.

– Gerald and Mrs. Oldland of Piceance visited the town folks during the week.

– It is but a few years back that most of the popular magazines in the east were great muck rakers and radical in their tendencies. This is now all changed. They are radically conservative. Why? Well, the only way we can account for the remarkable change is the fact that the magazines, like the big daily papers, have passed into the hands of the big corporations, commonly called the Money Power. There is some grounds for the current of unrest abroad in the land.

– The Colorado Wildlife Commission has placed itself on record against and strongly condemned the controversial $55 million Yellow Jacket dam project on the South Fork of the White River near Buford. 

– Announcing… the name of our new loft for junior and teen sizes… “The Top Shop,” the place to shop if you are junior size, from 3’s to 15’s. A. Oldland & Co.

– Every year, Kay Bivens hosts a weed awareness project for elementary school children. This year the winners were Koley Borchard, Katie Lewis, Cynda Norell, Maureen Moodie, Kayla Erickson and Vance Sille.

– Airman Steven R. Hejl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hejl of Rangely, Colo., has been assigned to Keesler AFB, Miss., after completing Air Force basic training.

Rangely Times ~ 25 years ago

– Aaron Parsons, a Rangely High School senior, has been named a Commended Student in the 1998 National Merit Scholarship Program. 

– Rockford M. Hayes has been appointed publisher and general manager of the Rangely Times. 

– David Bailey and Natalie Allen were crowned Homecoming King and Queen at halftime of the football game. This year’s theme was “Men in Black.”
