Final thoughts on commissioner campaign and call to voters
Dear Editor:
Well, this is the last installment of my thoughts concerning our County before Primary Day, June 25, 2024.
This County Commissioner bid has been a unique experience and a great opportunity to get out and meet with people and listen to ideas, thoughts and concerns about our combined living experience in RBC.
We have many challenges facing us here. Luckily, living where we do, we have so much more to be grateful for. I have lived and traveled in many beautiful places; I will always choose Rio Blanco County.
I believe so strongly that we, as a County, need to work together. I now know that many of you feel the same. I will work to bring that cooperative engagement to fruition. We are stronger together. We have untapped potential. We don’t realize that, together, we have the solutions to meet our challenges.
The position of County Commissioner is a “work horse” position. It is not a position that allows for unilateral decision making. It requires conversations, research and critical thinking. Skills that I possess. The role requires us to listen to our constituents, to really hear them. We need to be in the conversations (at every level: local, state, federal and the backrooms) where opinions are being formed and future decisions made. We also need to be able to dissect the information we are receiving by researching the data. To be a County Commissioner is to be a servant to ALL the people of Rio Blanco County. Not just one group, industry or special interest. The decisions we make affect everyone.
I’ve held elected offices in the past and understand what those entail. I have made my living building my own successful businesses and am able to sustain the livelihood of myself and my family. This and extensive volunteering are how I have spent the past 30 years of my life hoping to make Rio Blanco County a better place.
Lastly, I put my faith in people. I am an optimist and think that all people are good until they show they are not. My faith is strong in the people of our County. We are resilient, innovative, reliable, creative, hardworking and above all compassionate. With that combination how can we not go forward and succeed?
If you haven’t voted, Please do now. And, remember, Regas Halandras for Rio Blanco County Commissioner. Thank you.
Regas Halandras
District 3 Candidate for Rio Blanco County Commissioner
A call to voters and message of thanks
Dear Editor:
As the Republican Primary draws to a close this coming Tuesday, June 25, please be sure your ballot is counted. It is our individual right and responsibility to participate in this process to determine who will represent us.
With this being the last paper before the primary, I want to thank several people. First, thanks to Niki at the Rio Blanco Herald Times for the great Q&A With District 3 Candidates in the June 6 paper. If you missed it, I encourage you to check out the Q&A and the letters to the editor over the past few weeks. Thanks to all who submitted letters to the editor and provided financial support of my candidacy. Thanks to the Rio Blanco County Republican Committee for hosting the Candidate Forums in late May. All of these offer the public an opportunity to get to know the candidates and what we offer you. I also want to thank Regas for running a clean and respectful campaign. We have both focused on what we can do for you so you can make an informed decision on your ballot. Last but not least, I want to thank my husband, Mark Scritchfield, for his support in the long days and short nights over the past few months.
With that said, you may still be wondering who you should vote for. Of course, I believe I will be your best choice for Commissioner, but that is a decision for you to make based on solid evidence. Therefore, I encourage you to visit my website at www.Callie4RBC.com to see samples of my experience and leadership roles representing Rio Blanco County issues that are impactful to our County and rural way of life.
I have spent the last 20+ years advocating for grassroots policy that is developed and supported at the local level by facilitating numerous local workgroups, committees, and stakeholder groups. The policies developed through these processes are carried to the state and federal levels by walking the halls of the State Capitol and on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. There, I have spoken with legislators and agency leadership to help them understand how their decisions impact our livelihoods and quality of life in Rio Blanco County. I will use this experience and collaborative leadership to continue representing Rio Blanco County and all our issues. I look forward to serving the people of Rio Blanco County for the next four years.
If you have more questions after visiting my website, please email me at [email protected] and I’ll be happy to answer any questions.
Your vote matters. Please take the time to vote by June 25.
Callie Scritchfield
District 3 Candidate for Rio Blanco County Commissioner
