Quilts in the Country gains popularity

MEEKER | The Quilts in the Country annual P.E.O. Quilt Show has been gaining a positive reputation in its 12 short years of existence! This year just added to its fame. With 140 unique quilts — never before shown in this event — the visitors couldn’t stop exclaiming over the quality and exceptional experience of viewing the impressive display at the Fairfield Center on Friday and Saturday during the Meeker Classic Sheep Dog Trials!

This year, 284 guests attended from all of the country and even the world! As the visitors tour the rooms filled with quilt displays and the quilter’s stories attached to each one, they are encouraged to vote on their favorite quilt. The winner of the Viewer’s Choice for 2024 was “Woodland Creatures,” applique/quilted by Eleanor Phillips and submitted by her daughter, Jennifer Purkey.

The beautiful Opportunity Quilt that had a drawing on the last day was awarded to Rena Olsen from Craig, Colorado.

The P.E.O. Chapter BA of Meeker would like to thank the community for their support including the Meeker High School FCCLA in helping set up the bake sale and all the individuals who helped to hang and display the quilts in preparation for the show. And a big thank you to all those who submitted quilts for display and to Susan Bellamy for sharing her amazing sewing skills with her doll display.

All proceeds go toward educational scholarships for our local young ladies who are attempting to further their education. This fundraiser helps us help them reach for the stars!
