MEEKER | Last week, the Town of Meeker Board of Trustees held its regular meeting. To start the meeting off, the board approved the agenda, the previous meeting’s minutes, and the monthly disbursements.
During the public participation period, Stephanie Hanson of the Meeker Chamber of Commerce provided an update on the highway banner project. She gave an overview of the banner and its progress.
“The banner was put up, it was awesome, and then it was taken down because the poles looked like they were moving and the banner was sagging, so for safety’s sake, we took it down,” Hanson said.
After the banner’s removal, SGM Engineers from Glenwood Springs and White River Electric, which had installed the poles, assessed the issue. They determined the problem was with the soil, which was not as expected and caused the poles to move. Recommendations to fix the issue included reinforcing the poles with foam footing and attaching a wire to brace each pole.
“That is the most favored solution by White River Electric and SGM,” Hanson said. “They are refining the plans a little more, and so far, the cost estimate is about $1,600. We plan on using our Main Street grant to cover that cost.”
The meeting proceeded with staff updates, and no issues were reported. Discussion then moved to the Town of Meeker’s personnel policies and procedures, specifically its purchasing policies. The board also considered adding a floating holiday to the calendar for next year.
The meeting was adjourned, and the board went into an executive session pursuant to C.R.S. 24-6-402(4)(b) for a conference with the attorney regarding legal advice on a specific issue.
The next meeting of the Town of Meeker Board of Trustees is scheduled for Oct. 1, 2024.
