MHS Cowboys fall to North Fork Miners, Grand Valley Cardinals

MEEKER | The Meeker High School boys basketball team hosted the North Fork Miners last Friday, hoping to end a two-game losing streak and improve their 3-10 record. The Miners entered the game riding a two-game winning streak with a 6-7 record.

The Cowboys struggled throughout the night and ultimately fell 58-41 to the Miners. The loss served as payback for North Fork, which had lost to Meeker in their last matchup in February 2024.

Despite the defeat, several Cowboys delivered notable performances. Senior Alex Garcia scored 10 points, going 5-for-8 from the field, and grabbed five rebounds. Fellow senior Drew Drake contributed eight points.

The Cowboys had difficulty containing the Miners’ standout players. Senior Moss Inman led all scorers with 18 points and eight rebounds, shooting 7-for-17 from the field. Sophomore David Audelo added a double-double, recording 13 points and nine rebounds.

The loss dropped Meeker’s record to 3-11 for the season. Head Coach Klark Kindler talked about the outcome of the game following the loss.

“We did not shoot the ball well and gave up too many offensive rebounds,” Kindler stated.

The following day, the Cowboys traveled to Parachute to take on the Grand Valley Cardinals, seeking redemption after a previous loss this season. Despite a strong first quarter in which they led 16-10, Meeker ultimately fell 61-55, extending their losing streak to four games.

Sophomore Cad Mills scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Cowboys, while Garcia recorded a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

Defensively, Meeker struggled to contain Grand Valley’s top players. Junior Daniel Gronewoller recorded a double-double with 12 rebounds, while senior Porter Ostermiller added 13 points and 13 rebounds.

The loss dropped Meekers record to 3-12 for the season. Head Coach Klark Kindler explained that the team played well but just could not get the right shot Saturday afternoon.

“We played well again didn’t shoot it well but kept hanging around couldn’t quite close it out,” Kindler stated.

The Cowboys will look to bounce back this week with two home games. They will face Plateau Valley on Thursday, with junior varsity tipping off at 4:30 p.m. and varsity at 7:30 p.m. On Friday, they will host Gunnison, with junior varsity starting at 4 p.m. and varsity at 7 p.m.

Good luck to the Cowboys as they look to turn their season around!
