Happy Mother’s Day from the HT!

The idea of an official day to honor mothers came from a woman named Anna Jarvis, who set out to honor her own mother’s legacy with a national holiday on the second Sunday in May, the day of her mother’s death. Mother’s Day was officially recognized by President Woodrow Wilson in 1914, just before the start of WWI.

Voter turnout for the special district elections on Tuesday was excellent, according to those in the know. The hospital board will return Wade Bradfield to his seat, and add Jean Gianinetti and Sherri Halandras. The fire district board will return J’Leah Richardson to her seat and add Charles Day. And the rec district will add new board members Andrea Gianinetti, Peter Doan, and Kevin Borchard. Here’s to exercising our right to vote for our representatives at every level of government!

“Mothers are not the nameless, faceless stereotypes who appear once a year on a greeting card with their virtues set to prose, but women who have been dealt a hand for life and play each card one at a time the best way they know how. No mother is all good or all bad, all laughing or all serious, all loving or all angry. Ambivalence rushes through their veins.”
