RIO HAPPENINGS: May 10-16, 2026

ARRESTS

5/15/2026- A 55 year-old male was arrested by Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and/or Drugs and Careless Driving. He was issued a summons and released to a sober party.  

CALL SUMMARIES

5/10/2026 @ 7:43 am. A one vehicle rollover occurred at the 16 mile-marker on Highway 64. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash. The driver was taken into custody.  Colorado State Patrol is investigating the crash.

 5/11/2026 @ 1:37 pm. A traffic complaint regarding a vehicle weaving on Highway 64 led to a deputy making contact with the driver. The driver was warned for weaving and sent on their way to practice staying between the lines. 

5/12/2026 @ 5:35 pm. A citizen reported a mysterious odor near the laundromat bathroom that was strong enough to burn the eyes. Meeker PD and Meeker Volunteer Fire Dept. responded. The investigation revealed the culprit to be stain soaked clothing that spontaneously combusted in the trash can and started a small fire. The blaze was quickly extinguished and the laundromat returned to its regularly scheduled aroma of detergent and lost socks. 

5/14/2026 @ 8:38 pm. Two different callers reported a possible drunk driver on Highway 13. The box truck was located at the Corner Store and after a short investigation the driver was arrested for DUI. While the cargo remained frozen solid, the driver’s decision-making had clearly thawed out long before the traffic stop. The only thing getting delivered that night was a ride to the Sheriff’s Office. 

5/16/2026 @ 7:01 pm. A passerby reported hay smoldering at an address on County Road 7. Meeker Volunteer Fire Dept. responded and and was able to clear the scene a few minutes later.
