Work begins this week; trail to remain open

MEEKER | The White River National Forest, in partnership with the National Forest Foundation, will replace the bridge on the Mirror Lake Trail (#1821) that crosses the North Fork of the White River beginning June 4.
The 3.5-mile trail in the Blanco Ranger District will remain open to hikers and equestrians throughout construction. Work is expected to continue through the end of June.
Because the existing bridge is being dismantled, visitors should be prepared to wade across the North Fork of the White River, located half a mile from the trailhead. Additionally, construction equipment will be operating along the trail between the trailhead and the bridge site.
“If you are hiking the trail, please make yourself visible to the workers and ensure that all heavy equipment has come to a complete stop before you attempt to pass through the construction zone,” said Curtis Keetch, Blanco District Ranger.
Funded through the Great American Outdoors Act, the project will replace the existing 36-foot bridge with modern materials and a higher clearance design to better handle seasonal high-water flows.
“This project will secure reliable, long-term forest access to this part of the Blanco Ranger District for years to come,” Keetch said.
