Special to the HT
RANGELY | Rangely High School student-athlete Chase Cochrane has been named one of Colorado’s Most Positive Athletes for the 2025-26 school year by the Positive Athlete organization.
Cochrane was among 28 Colorado high school students recognized statewide for demonstrating leadership, character and sportsmanship both on and off the field.
The Positive Athlete program honors student-athletes who exemplify seven core values: optimism, putting the team first, encouragement, respect, admitting imperfections, having a true heart for others and embracing service.
More than 920 nominations were submitted statewide by coaches, athletic directors, athletic trainers, principals, teachers, counselors and parents. The nominations represented 292 public and private high schools, accounting for approximately 78% of Colorado schools with formal athletics programs.
In addition to student-athletes, the organization recognized coaches, an athletic director, an athletic trainer and several schools for their positive impact on youth sports.
The Colorado awards are part of the national Positive Athlete program, founded by sports industry veteran Scott Pederson to promote character, leadership and positivity in athletics. Nominees are selected not only for athletic achievement but also for demonstrating the program’s core values in their schools and communities.
