Three fires in the last few weeks have led the people of Meeker to a sense of insecurity in the matter of fires.
About half past 6 o’clock Thursday evening fire was seen issuing from the windows of one of Gates Kersburg’s by the time the fire boys arrived the building was a mass of flames. Attention was at once directed to saving adjoining property and by extraordinary exertion the flames were confined to burning structure.

The Board of County Commissioners met in regular quarterly session on Monday, July 4th and adjourned until Thursday, July 7th.
Eggs vary in size and color, but investigations show that healthy hens, fed normal rations, lay eggs that are consistently of good quality. However, there are many factors that influence the market value of eggs, most of which are within the control of the producer and dealer of eggs.

Meeker High School Class of ‘66 met at Tommy’s Supper Club on Saturday, July 3rd, for their 10 year reunion. A delicious roast beef and chicken dinner was followed by an evening of reminiscing and dancing.
The MHS class of ‘46 reunion, besides enjoying getting together for their 30th reunion here July 5th, also made plans for another reunion in 1981.

Drilling for an experimental deep-shaft oil shale bore in Rio Blanco County.
It was a full day for those celebrating America’s 200th birthday this year in Rangely. Beginning at 10:00 in the morning a majority of the people were still going strong thirteen hours later when the official celebration came to a close at 11:00 that evening. No one seemed to mind that the festivities were a day late because after spending three full days in Meeker it allowed many to come home and celebrate, still one more day of this very special event in America’s history.

Things are looking good for Rangely District Hospital according to interim Director Waune Deschambeau. He gave the Rangely town board a brief overview of the status of the hospital at the July 10 meeting along with a request for town council help on a strategic plan for the facility.
The county fair is right around the corner and coming a little quicker than usual. The fair board has moved the starting date of the fair up one week. The horse show begins July 28 and the fair runs July 31-Aug. 4.
More than 40 junior golfers from around the Western Slope and Utah competed at Cedar Ridges Golf Course in Rangely last Wednesday and many from Rio Blanco County played well.
