The Meeker High School boys golf team continued its busy September schedule Tuesday, Sept. 15, traveling to Steamboat Springs for the Sailor Shootout at Haymaker Golf Course.
The Cowboys finished 15th as a team with a score of 267 (+51) out of 20 teams.
Sophomore Teagan Smith led Meeker, shooting an 81 (+9) to finish 21st overall. Smith followed his fifth-place Class 2A finish at the Moffat County Invitational the previous day with another solid round.
Sophomore Sebastian Baumgart finished second for the Cowboys with an 86 (+14), placing 39th overall. Junior Holt Pelloni and sophomore Dylan Rundberg each carded a 100 (+28), while sophomore David Cook finished with a 122 (+50).
Meeker returned to the road Monday, Sept. 21, for its final regular-season tournament, competing in the Gypsum Invitational at Gypsum Creek Golf Course.
The Cowboys finished 10th as a team with a combined score of 263 (+47) out of 14 teams.
Baumgart led Meeker at Gypsum, carding an 83 (+11) to finish 28th overall. Smith followed with an 89 (+17), placing 44th. Senior Brycen Peña shot a 91 (+19) to finish 50th, while Rundberg carded a 107 (+35) and Pelloni finished with a 109 (+37).
The Gypsum tournament marked the final regular-season competition for the Cowboys, who have used the season to give a young roster valuable tournament experience.
Under the Colorado High School Activities Association’s new postseason format, traditional regional tournaments have been replaced by the statewide iWanamaker individual ranking system. Meeker must now wait until the state database freezes Saturday, Sept. 26, to determine whether Smith, Baumgart or any of their teammates finish among the top 84 individuals needed to qualify for the Class 2A State Championships.
The Class 2A State Championships are scheduled for Oct. 5-6 at Pueblo Country Club.
