Trials offer discounts for county residents

MEEKER — In the face of $4 gas and inflation everywhere else, the Meeker Classic discount tickets for RBC residents are the best bargain in town. The Meeker Classic does not want the price of a ticket to deter RBC residents from exploring the region’s sheep herding heritage, or from enjoying the food, specialty vendors, many agriculture related demonstrations, bagpipes and Scottish Dancers and other fun at the 22nd annual trials on Sept. 3-7.
To that end, the classic again this year is offering special discounts for RBC residents. Discounted rates are $15 for a five-day adult pass and $7 for children 8-16. The single day adult pass is $5 and $2 for ages 8-16. Children under 8 are admitted free. Discounted tickets may be purchased in advance at Wendll’s or the chambers of commerce in Meeker and Rangely, or at the site during the trials.
Meeker Classic art contest entries are available for viewing at Wendll’s until the event, Sept. 3-7, when they will move to the historic Wilbur Barn. The silent art auction and voting on the art of your choice begins Sept. 3. The winning artwork and the “people’s choice” will be announced at the art social on Thursday, Sept 4, at the Wilbur Barn. The public is cordially invited to attend the free event.
For added enjoyment — and to save some of that $4 per gallon gas — the Meeker Classic, Pioneer Hospital and the Lodging Tax Board have arranged for free shuttle services to the site on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Gene and Ann Marie Scritchfield will take you from the courthouse square to the trials and back again in one of their horse-drawn carriages starting at 9 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. An adult must accompany children on the carriage ride. The Meeker Streaker will leave the White River Inn at 8 a.m., 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., with stops in roughly five minute increments at Circle Park and the courthouse square (sheepdog statue) on Friday, with an additional stop at the chamber of commerce on the weekend. The shuttles will stop at the main gate for those who have not pre-purchased tickets, and will deliver passengers to the vendor area.
