MEEKER I The Meeker High School cross-country team traveled to Delta’s Confluence Park for the 2A Regional cross country meet on Friday, when the Cowboy squad posted some excellent times and qualified three of the team’s runners for the Colorado State Cross Country Meet this weekend.
The boys squared off first, and Meeker’s Austin Russell led the team with a ninth-place finish while posting a personal best time of 16:36.
Marshal Pool was the next runner to finish, also with a personal best time of 17:04, good enough for the 10th-place spot. Both runners qualified as individuals for the state competition.
Christopher Strate also had a great race, turning in a time under 20 minutes for a 38th-place time of 19:17.
Clay Anderson was not far behind, at 19:42 and 43rd place while Pake Burke rounded out the Cowboys’ team. The freshman runner Burke crossed the line in 57th place with a time of 20:49.
All five Meeker runners posted their individual best career times.
The girls’ 2A race followed; with Julia Eskelson and Briar Meszaros representing Meeker.
Eskelson completed the course in 20:49, for a state-qualifying 12th place finish, and Meszaros logged a personal best time of 21:50, for 18th place.
“Meeker had a great day of racing,” MHS head coach Marty Casey said, “We saw impressive time improvements, and we are excited to have three Cowboys competing at state.”
