MEEKER I The Meeker High School cross-country teams had three representatives at the Colorado State Cross-Country Meet in Colorado Springs on Saturday with good performances by most team members.

The 2A girls’ race started the day at the Norris Penrose Event Center, and although the venue was the same, the course had been changed from previous years.
Meeker’s Julia Eskelson fared well in her third appearance at the state meet in as many years. She ran a solid race, finishing as the top only Meeker girl runner in the competition, in 24th place out of a field of 81 runners. She turned in a time of 21:46.
The 2A boys’ race had 112 runners this year, two of whom were Meeker Cowboys.
Austin Russell ran for his second time at the state championships. He crossed the line in a time of 17:40, which was good enough for a 13th place overall.
Marshal Pool, Meeker cross-country’s sole senior this year, was not far behind. He turned in a time of 17:59, which was good enough for 19th place overall.
“It was a great day for racing, and we saw excellent effort from all three competitors,” Meeker head coach Marty Casey said. “Julia and Austin have been progressing nicely, and I fully expect to see them back at state again next year. Marshal has been running well all year, and I was happy to see him top off his season with a great performance at the state level.”
