CNCC rodeo team ends regular season No. 2 in U.S.; Onyett is No. 1

The Colorado Northwestern Community College Rodeo Team had a great season, which has come to an end. The team is No. 2 in the nation, it has a cowboy ranked No. 1 in the nation and has several members of the team who have qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo., this summer. Both photos here are from the Spartan Showdown, held at Centennial Park in Rangely on April 1 and 2 and hosted by CNCC.

RANGELY I “Rodeo fans and Spartan cowboy and cowgirl supporters, we have had another amazing year,” Colorado Northwestern Community College Head Rodeo Coach Jed Moore said Friday.

“Now that the arena dust has settled and the points have all been tallied, your CNCC men’s team has again been named the Rocky Mountain Region Reserve Champion men’s rodeo team,” Moore said. “In addition to that, we finally attained our first-ever regional champion.”
Sophomore Colton Onyett demonstrated exceptional poise and determination this spring, holding off a very talented field of bareback riders to clinch the championship and earn a second berth to the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo., in June.
sptphrgCNCCRodeoFireCNCC Craig Nursing school student Teasha Moody also made her mark this year as Reserve Champion Regional goat tier and as the second-ever CNCC Goat Tier and the only CNCC ladies team qualifier to the CNFR. Moody has worked so hard for us at a distinct disadvantage being removed from the rest of the team, practicing all on her own to be the best she can be while holding up exceptional grades in a difficult program.
“She has once again proven that she is a superstar in and out of the arena,” Moore said.
Other CNCC Spartan CNFR qualifiers and contestants of note this season were:
Men’s Team:
JD Slagowski: Reserve Champion Team Roper, CNFR Qualification, 10th in saddle bronc.
Johnny Pavkov: Reserve Champion Team Roper, CNFR Qualification, Fifth in All-Around and Seventh in Steer Wrestling.
Brody Adams: Fifth in Tie-Down Roping, Fifth in Team Roping, CNFR Qualification, and Seventh in All-Around.
Nick Chew: Fourth in Saddle Bronc Riding, CNFR Qualification.
Rhett Nielson: Third in Bull Riding, CNFR Qualification, Eighth in Team Roping, Ninth in All-Around, and 15th in Steer Wrestling.
Justin White: Eighth in Team Roping.
Hayden Boardman: Seventh in Saddle Bronc.
Brendon Beck: Sixth in Bareback Riding.
Ethan Cook: Sixth in Bull Riding; 10th in Bull Riding.
Women’s Team:
Anna Bahe: Fourth in Breakaway Roping.
Shawnie Stone: 10th in Barrel Racing.
Teasha Moody: 13th in Barrel Racing; and
Teague Crane: 14th in Breakaway Roping.
The CNCC Men’s Rodeo team is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation in all of college rodeo with Colton Onyett being ranked as the No. 1 bareback rider in the country.
The team-roping duo of JD Slagowski and Johnny Pavkov are ranked No. 4 in the nation; Anna Bahe is No. 15 in the country in break-away roping; and Teasha Moody is No. 7 nationally in goat tying.
“Assistant Paige Yore and I would like to send out a sincere thank you to the incredible faculty and staff of CNCC who have supported and pushed our athletes to be so successful in and out of the arena,” Moore said. “We would love to have you attend any of the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo., on June 12-18, 2016.
