MEEKER I The Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan (ERBM) Recreation and Park District will host its annual Community Appreciation Day on July 23 at the Downtown Plaza at Fifth and Main streets.
In celebration of the 35th anniversary of the district and the continued support of the community, the event will feature community fun, free lunch and prizes for all ages.
Drawings for prizes will be held every 35 minutes throughout the event, with the grand prize drawing for two $400 gift certificates to J&R Cyclery of Craig at 2:05 p.m. Tickets for the drawing will be handed out on July 23 after participants participate in events such as the Paintbrush Rush and lunch.
Participants must be present at the Downtown Plaza to win.
The event will start with the 3rd Annual Paintbrush Rush Color Run at 9 a.m., which will begin at Sanderson Hills Park. During this fun run, participants of all ages will be splattered with vibrant colored powder dye at checkpoints throughout the Phillip and Dorcas Jensen Memorial Park trails and finish at Sixth Street Park.
The run is not timed, so participants can run, walk, dash or dance their way to the rainbow explosion of color at Sixth Street Field. Participants are encouraged to wear light colored clothing that they don’t mind getting dyed with color. Participants may register for the free event at Sanderson Hills Park before 8:45 a.m.
Events will then move to the Downtown Plaza for a 3-on-3 volleyball tournament, inflatables, free lunch, live music, clown acts and prizes.
The three-on-three volleyball tournament will begin at 10 a.m. for those 13 and older. Gather up a team of three to five players and enjoy the grass volleyball competition. This is free for all teams, and interested participants can register the day of the event.
Lunch will be provided by the Meeker Lions Club and served by ERBM employees and board members from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Matt Holliday and the Machine will also be entertaining for the crowd from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A scavenger hunt is also underway for the event, with local businesses displaying baskets of prizes that will be a awarded to a few lucky Community Appreciation Day participants.
Scavenger hunt cards may be picked up at the Meeker Recreation Center and completed and turned in to either the Meeker Recreation Center before July 23 or to the Prize Table at Community Appreciation Day on July 23.
