MEEKER I Freedom Alliance is set to host six Marine veterans on an adventure through the scenic Flat Top Mountains in the White River National Forest of Colorado. During the five-day journey starting on today, they will enjoy a variety of outdoor activities including fishing and hiking—all which provide therapeutic recreation and peaceful surroundings.
As instructor trainers at the Marine Corps Martial Arts Center of Excellence in Virginia, these veterans make up an elite group with their knowledge in hand-to-hand and close quarter combat techniques.
“These uniquely skilled veterans have dealt with multiple deployments to combat areas over the years and are now living with the trauma-related effects,” said Tom Kilgannon, president of Freedom Alliance. “We hope this adventure will give them a chance to relax, bond in their experiences, and encourage the healing needed to strengthen their lives.”
“The location of the camp and the isolation allowed us to be ourselves and to have a memorable experience; this trip is something that I will always cherish. We are extremely grateful,” said Jason Gross, an Army combat medic who participated in last year’s trip.
Flattop Mountain is the highest summit of the Flat Tops in the Rocky Mountains of North America. The group will reside in canvas-walled tents at 9,300 feet elevation near the Upper Marvine Lake, which offers a scenic view and several species of trout for fishing.
Freedom Alliance has partnered with Adams Lodge Outfitters for this unique outdoor expedition for the third year.
