RBC I The Meeker Cowboys softball team completed their regular season this week on a five game winning streak while also winning seven of their last eight games. Tuesday the team traveled to district foe Aspen and brought home a 31-6 win. Megan Shelton and Mackenzie Marshall led the offensive attack with excellent support from Gracie Bradfield, Sidney Shaffer, Taylor Dodds, Kenzie Turner and Tori Lasker at the plate.

The lady Cowboys traveled to Gypsum on Friday and swept 4A Eagle Valley 17-3 and 28-20. Tori Lasker provided several innings of shut-down pitching while Sierra Williams, Julia Christensen and Gracie Bradfield put incredible pressure on the Devil defense with outstanding batting and base-running. Megan Shelton added power and command from behind the plate in the catcher position. Other starters including Sidney Shaffer, Kenzie Turner, Mackenzie Marshall, Jasmine Patterson and Taylor Dodds were solid in the dominant showing over the larger school.
The team ranks third in the state both in batting average and total runs scored and second in stolen bases. Junior Sierra Williams was the leader for all classifications in the state for the second year in a row and sixth in the nation with 43 stolen bases. Sophomore Megan Shelton completed the season at an impressive fourth in Colorado and fifth in the nation catching for the percentage of runners caught stealing among catchers with enough stolen base attempts against them to qualify.
The lady Cowboys will travel to Strasburg where they will meet the Limon Badgers at 10 a.m. Saturday. If they are able to advance in that matchup, they will have opportunity to face the top-ranked team in the state, the Strasburg Indians. Any win on Saturday will earn a state qualifying position for the 3A state tournament.
“They are primed, proved, and ready to roll into post-season play,” said coach Briana Williams.
