Accident claims life of Missouri hunter

MEEKER | On Wednesday, Oct. 12 at about 11:24 a.m., troopers were dispatched to an accident on Rio Blanco County Road 115 approximately 1 mile north of Rio Blanco County Road 8 about 28 miles northeast of Meeker.
A gray 2008 pickup truck pulling an enclosed trailer was traveling northbound on Rio Blanco County Rd. 115. The truck was being driven by Robert DeMoss, 50, of Sedalia, Mo.
A passenger from the truck, Louis Gero, 58, also from Sedalia, was riding on the rear bumper of the truck. Gero fell from the bumper and was subsequently run over by the trailer. Gero sustained fatal injuries as a result, and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Rio Blanco County Coroner’s Office.
The accident is under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol at this time. Agencies assisting the State Patrol with the investigation included the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, Meeker Fire/Rescue, Rio Blanco County Coroner’s Office, the Colorado Division of Wildlife and Classic Air Rescue.
Drugs and/or alcohol and excessive speed are not considered contributing factors to this accident at this time.
