Meeker alumni claim another livestock judging championship

MEEKER | The South Plains College Livestock Judging team in Levelland, Texas, recently claimed another championship banner. The team competed in the annual Tri-State Fair competition Sept. 16 in Amarillo and SPC garnered the championship banners in the overall competition.
Additionally, SPC garnered championships in the beef cattle, swine, sheep/goat and oral reasons divisions of the contest.
“It is a great start and good preparation for our upcoming National Fall contests,” according to Conner Newsom, coach of the team. “Our team’s success was complimented by a big showing from the entire team.”
Drew Lamle of Columbia City, Ind., was the high individual overall, high point in the beef and oral reasons and second in swine. Madi Shults of Meeker was the second high individual overall while winning the swine division, placing fourth in reasons and seventh in sheep. Tanner Keeton of Borger, Texas, placed third in both the overall rankings as well as beef cattle. Kyle Malaer of Port Lavaca, Texas, finished seventh overall. Conner Cross of Wilkinson, Ind., finished eighth overall. Ty Dunham of Meeker was ninth high individual and Bailey Baade of Franklin, Texas, was 12th. Jeyson Price of Brackettville, Texas, accompanied the team but was unable to compete.
Teams from Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Oregon competed in this year’s contest. The Livestock Judging Team will compete in at the Flint Hills competition on Sept. 29 in Manhattan, Kan., and the Arksarben competition in Omaha, Neb., on Oct. 1.
