Volunteers urged to attend workshop

MEEKER | Community Heart and Soul will present an informational workshop at the Main Street Project 45/Heritage Culture  Meeting Tuesday, July 24, 12-1:30 p.m. at the Old West Heritage Culture Center, 517 Park Ave. Alexsis Halbert and her CHS team will present a program designed to engage and inspire collaborative non-profits and advocacy groups to unite in harmony with local governments on behalf of community efforts to share resources and create measurable goals and objectives through education and partnerships.

How will CHS empower residents to shape the future?

CHS states: “We devoted more than a decade working with small cities and towns to develop a community development model that empowers residents to shape the future of their communities.

Community Heart & Soul fosters teamwork, engagement and energy from within the community.”

CHS was created by Lyman Orton, founder of the Orton Family Foundation, whose vision suggests that “…Your town is not just a place. It’s home. Your town’s unique character along with the deep emotional connection felt by the people who live there is your town’s ‘Heart & Soul…’  CHS  seeks to empower people to shape the future of their communities by improving local decision-making, creating a shared sense of belonging, and ultimately strengthening the social, cultural, and economic vibrancy of each place.”

The goal is to engage youth, adults and seniors from the community to participate and contribute.  All are welcome.

Community Heart & Soul is a catalyst for positive change that provides a roadmap for small towns to build a brighter future based on what matters most to everyone. Community Heart & Soul works because the community works together to make it happen.

Five percent of the volunteers in a community do all of the work…

Often these organizations focus on their own interests and goals without effectively collaborating with similar groups whose members may have resources and talents that could be shared, consequently become more efficient and productive for all (e.g., grant-writing, cultural events, meeting venues, subject-matter experts and resources, et al).

See CHS website for detailed information, projects, success stories and much more: http://www.orton.org/build-your-community/community-heart-soul/

CHS communities in Colorado include: Cortez, Crawford, Grand Lake and Golden as well as numerous other communities nationwide.
