– Under the supervision of Harry Niblock, Rev. Ostenson is having some needed repairs done on St. James Church, which will add much to the congregation’s comfort.

– We notice that Meeker is represented in a map folder just issued by the Pikes Peak Ocean to Ocean Highway Association as a part of its campaign to advertise the advantages of the “central scenic transcontinental route” which passes through this town.

– Mrs. J. S. Dixon, who runs the Rio Blanco hotel, spent a few days in town this week, attending to Christmas shopping.

– Mr. and Mrs. John R. Hilkey of Josephine Park were shoppers in town last Tuesday.

– L.B. Walbridge was in Denver this week attending a session of the State Highway Commission.

– Get your skis and warm clothing ready as skiing at Nine Mile will get underway sometime this weekend. It has been discovered that approximately 180 feet of the 1,200 ft., 3/4 inch rope has been stolen.

– Santa Claus came early for 11 boys and girls who were lucky to hold the winning numbers at the free movie and drawing at the high school auditorium Saturday. Kathy Henderson, bike; Lois Linderman, sled, Tammie Lockhard, wagon; Connie Bagley, crow shoot; Billy Bright, popcorn popper; Sherrill Ridgeway, plush dog; Jimmie Randall, Chinese checkers set; Lance Harp, Monkees game; Brad Cook, gun and holster set; Kathy Clapper, doll; and Scott Fandrich, basketball.

– A fight that broke out two weeks ago over an alleged domestic fight at the Two Rivers Lodge and Guest Ranch has resulted in the loss of an eye to one of the suspects in the dispute, who was hit in the face with a crutch.

– The Last Chance Restaurant in Meeker closed unexpectedly Wednesday, after two Colorado Department of Revenue agents seized the building’s contents and property for payment of back taxes and payments made with checks that were returned for insufficient funds.

– An unwelcome surprise awaited the Tom Ridings family upon their return home late last week as a fire heavily damaged their residence on the 200 block of Garfield St. A build-up of lint in a dryer may have been responsible.

– Deputy Sheriff Bob Daniels reported today that an apparent attempt had been made to blow up a bridge on Colo. 64 east of Rangely across Gillam Draw, near the airport. Dynamite stolen a few month ago from the county was used in the attempt.

– Retail sales for the third quarter jumped over 32 percent over the same period in 1967.

– A new post office for Rangely appears to be in the cards in the near future. Representatives from the Department are expected here within the next few weeks to inspect possible sites.

– For over two years, the Rio Blanco Water Conservancy District, in conjunction with the Fish and Wildlife Service, have had an education/information program regarding the endangered squawfish. The most visible part of this program has been the squawfish aquarium in the Rangely Public Library.

– Where is that clean-up campaign… where is that park… where is that swimming pool… where are the trash cans… where are the trees that could shade our Main… where are the sidewalks along our main street… Finally… as we will be asking… where are the customers?
