Lady Cowboys stomp Wildcats 57-24

MEEKER | After having a two-week hiatus the lady Cowboys basketball team came out with a bang and a decisive win over North Park last Saturday in their first conference game of the season. A final score of 57-24, the Cowboys were unstoppable by the Wildcats and go into the second week of conference play with a 6-1 record.
“The girls played well together,” said head coach Jamie Rogers. “They found a great rhythm.”
Leading scorers were Tori Lasker and Megan Shelton, with 15 and 16 points respectively. Shelton found herself double- and triple-teamed for much of the game, which led to Lasker being open and Shelton able to dish to the inside for a score. A bench of 13 deep found nine of the girls scoring. “Everyone was able to play and contribute,” said Rogers. Offensively contributions came from all over the court,
Gracie Bradfield and Kenzie Turner secured the most rebounds and some of the younger team members got playing time and were able to score and put up some stats.
Defensively, it was a team effort, steals were led by Lasker and Kirsten Brown and rebounds by Shelton and Matilda Brown. The Cowboys shut the Wildcats down efficiently and effectively on both sides of the ball.
This Friday JV and Varsity will travel to Caprock Academy in Grand Junction, Colo., to take on the Eagles, games will start at 2:30 p.m. Saturday they will then host Vail Christian with JV beginning at 4 p.m.
The JV team also touts a 6-1 record, and are “playing very well,” Rogers said.
