– The bounteous snows of the past few weeks has caused the elk to seek lower altitudes, and as a consequence, some of their citizens are replenishing their larders.

– As usual, hundreds of suckers throughout the state will journey to Denver next week to attend the annual exhibit of fat steers. Denver gives you the glad hand, and greets the country bumpkin, grabs his coin and he returns home a sadder but wiser man, ready to work another year to get ready for the next regular annual money-parting trip to the Denver grabfest.
– These are mighty good days to repair harness and machinery against the busy days of spring.

– The Bureau of the Budget announced that grazing fees for federal lands administered by the Departments of Agriculture and the Interior will be higher this year, despite bitter opposition from members of the livestock industry, from conservation and farm and range organizations and from state and local governments.

– More than 160 members and guests attended the annual White River Soil Conservation District meeting and banquet last Saturday at the Fairfield Center, with this year’s conservation award going to Dave and Patti McGraw.

– Jodi Conwell has again been named the March of Dimes Girl for Rio Blanco County. Jodi was born Aug. 27, 1963 with Hydrocephalus (water on the brain) and Menigo Ceale (open spine). She has a simple pump imbedded in her head to relieve the pressure of the liquid on her brain and allows it to be absorbed by her system. Jodi is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Conwell of Rangely.
– Rangely’s city council Monday night refused a request to permit 3.2 beer businesses to remain open after 8 p.m. on Sunday nights.
