“The girls are playing with a lot of fight,” said head coach Jamie Rogers, “our defense is creating turnovers and we are converting into layups.”
Leading scorers Gracie Bradfield, Megan Shelton and Julia Dinwiddie all topped double digits. Another win and the team remains undefeated in the league, 6-0, with six games left in the regular season. The Cowboys retrieved 27 offensive rebounds, providing opportunities to keep the ball alive under their basket.
“We don’t have a great shooting percentage,” said Rogers, commenting on the overall performance, “but they battle for offensive rebounds to take as many shots as we need.”
Colorado High School Athletic Association rankings released on the Jan. 29 have the lady Cowboys currently ranked fifth. Only two teams above them remain undefeated, Del Norte and Heritage Christian. Sitting at number one is Limon. Soroco, ranked number nine, is the only ranked opponent that remains to be played. The lady Cowboys will face Soroco on home turf Feb. 7.
This Friday Meeker will host the Rangely Panthers, and the gym will be full. There will be no C team, only JV and varsity, with games beginning at 4 p.m., and varsity girls at 5:30 p.m. Saturday the girls are on the road at West Grand with JV beginning at 11:30 a.m. and varsity beginning at 1 p.m.
