MEEKER | Cowboy basketball had a rough beginning to the season, 3-2 after the first five games, but turned the season around and made it to the final 32.
“We got better as the season progressed,” said head coach Klark Kindler, “We had a few bumps along the way, mainly in mid-January but by the end of the year I felt we were playing well and peaked at the right time.
Traveling across the divide to Ault, Colo the final game of the season found the Cowboys taking on Highland, the number three ranked 2A boys team for their regional tournament. At the half, the Cowboys were down by nine points and fighting to remain in the game. Brennan Jensen and Ryan Phelan put up double digits and providing the stats to remain in the game. A final score of 52-34, the Cowboys wrapped up the season with an 11-12 record.
There are six seniors on the team, Jensen, Kale Burke, Stephen Walsh, Andy Kracht, Luis Villalpando and Johnathan Lopez. “They will be missed,” commented Kindler. “They did a great job all four years they were in the program.” Looking to the future he continued, “I feel we have a good nucleus coming back next year.”
