Q&A: Brett Dearman, Dearman Consulting

Brett Dearman, Dearman Consulting

MEEKER | Brett Dearman has more than 30 years in the digital security services world and is excited to begin sharing this expertise with the residents of his hometown. Dearman Consulting offers digital services and computer security for your home or office with personalized services and senior discounts. Call during the month of October for a free one hour system safety evaluation. Below is more information regarding Dearman’s business.

Q: What is Dearman Consulting?

A: I started Dearman Consulting as a service to the community to help people protect their digital information.  The Internet can be a dangerous place and like the rest of the world, Rio Blanco County residents need to be diligent about protecting their personal information.  My desire is to provide a resource to our community so that people can use their computers and the Internet safely and confidently.

Q: What services does your business offer?

A: My primary service offering is in the vein of digital security.  Whether it be a single home computer connected to the Internet, or a business with multiple computers networked together with connectivity to the Internet, I can provide advice and implement solutions that will help keep private information secure from various threats that exist.  If a person is uncomfortable or feels inexperienced with using the internet, I can sit down with customers on a one-on-one basis to show them how to stay safe.  Along with the digital security service, Dearman Consulting can assist with everything from setting up a new home computer to the design and implementation of a large scale computer network.

Q: How long have you been involved in this field of work?

A: I’ve been in the Information Technology business in one form or another since 1984.  I’ve often explained to people that I didn’t find this career path… it found me.  In 1984, the office where I was working purchased an Apple IIe computer for the purpose of word processing.  The owner of the business handed me the manual, showed me where the computer was installed and said, “Figure it out.”  So I did, and have been doing it ever since.  Since that time, I have worked for a number of Fortune 500 corporations (including IBM) as well as provided technical services to small “mom & pop” shops.  A lot of my experience over the last 10 years has been in the field of digital forensics which in many cases forced me to use every skill I’ve learned along the way.

Q: What do you enjoy about this business?

A: The thing I enjoy the most about this business is solving problems.  When it comes to information technology, no two problems are the same.  Over the years, I’ve seen some seriously amazing problems.  For instance, a hospital had an entire leg of their network go down every evening at around 6 p.m.  It turns out that there was a faulty fluorescent light in the janitor’s closet and every time he turned it on, it caused a network outage.  It was a serious problem for the hospital, but a fun problem to solve.  My second most favorite thing about what I do is helping people learn.  There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing “the little light come on” when explaining how something works.

Q: How can people contact you??

A: I sleep with my cell phone under my pillow.  Anybody can reach me by phone (281) 222-8474 or feel free to shoot me an email at [email protected]
