Letter: Nielsen announces bid for commissioner

Dear Editor:

I, Scott Nielsen, am announcing my candidacy for Rio Blanco County Commissioner.

As many of you know I was born and graduated in Meeker. I joined the United States Army shortly after graduating and have an Honorable Discharge. After working in Colorado, Oklahoma and California I returned to Meeker in 1993. I worked for Dowell in the oilfield before the bust of the early ‘80s. I have worked as an auto mechanic, and I have worked at a cinder mine as an equipment operator. My wife Nettie and I have three children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. After returning I worked for Rio Blanco County Road and Bridge for almost 25 years and currently work for CDOT out of the Meeker Patrol.

I am currently serving on the Town of Meeker board of Trustees, and I am also an officer in The Meeker Sportsman’s Club, that I have been a member of for over 25 years. I am a Life member in the NRA, and an NRA certified instructor in Basics of Pistol Shooting. I enjoy fly fishing, camping and hunting, especially archery.

I love Rio Blanco County and its outdoor opportunities, it has something for everyone that loves the outdoors. Now with the high speed internet that is available it offers accessibility that is not always easy to have in remote areas like ours.

Why am I running? I believe that voters should have a choice and I think that I will represent Rio Blanco County well. What is my agenda? I don’t believe that I have any specific agenda. I do like most of what is being done in the County. From the OHV trails, to the fiber optic installation, the sheepdog trials and the rally car race. We have great hiking and biking trails that are easily accessible from both towns. CNCC is an example of great things Rio Blanco County have to offer. Even the excitement of the Tank is generating positive interest in the county. I would like to keep exploring avenues for exporting natural gas. I also believe that we should keep our eyes and minds open to new ways to bring new industry or development to the county to help with the local economy. I will bring common sense, maturity and honesty with me to the board.

I would appreciate your vote.

Thanks,

Scott Nielsen

Meeker
