The Indians are on their annual game slaughtering raid in the western end of the county at the present time. Each year they encroach a little bit farther on the white man’s domain. They are now operating in the Coyote basin region. Of course the game wardens don’t bother them and the Utes can slaughter deer for the hides as long as there are any in sight.

Meeker’s Mayor and Town Council members spend a good deal of their time Monday night discussing police department policies and shortly before the meeting ended went into executive session, presumably to discuss other problems within the department.

Oscar Sizemore, owner of Sizemore’s Resort east of Meeker on the White River, says this hunting season may be his last as he and his wife, Lulu, the “chef,” plan to sell their business and retire.

If you were waiting to hear local voting results Tuesday night, you had a long delay as Jackie Brennan, Hazel Edwards and Nancy Amick were up until 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning due to problems with running the official ballots through the voting machine.

A one cent sales tax could be what helps offset declining revenues for the town of Meeker. At least, that was one option discussed by town council members as a way to improve the town’s coffers that are about $110,000 less this year due to a decrease in mineral leasing and severance tax revenues.

Rangely votes straight Republican; for college mill increase; against most amendments

Town Manager Bill Lewis is recovering quite well from a broken leg he received in a motorcycle accident.

The Rangely Panther football team traveled to Denver last Saturday to play in the 2A playoffs. Their first playoff appearance in five years was not a pleasant one as they were defeated by number 1 ranked Kent Denver 35-0.
