MEEKER | The Moffat County Bulldogs and the Meeker Cowboys have something in common: two swimmers, senior Jeni Kincher and freshman Katie Lockwood. These two girls have joined the Bulldogs team so they can compete in Colorado High School swimming.
The pool in the Moffat County High School suffered irreparable damage and the team now travels to Meeker three to four times a week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and some Thursdays to swim at ERBM. Thursdays and Fridays are land days and Moffat County swimmers stay in Craig to workout and Kincher and Lockwood will do the same workout in Meeker.
There are nine events in the regular season with meets, relays and invites for the team. This year Kincher and Lockwood will swim a variety of events including freestyle, breaststroke, and butterfly. Kincher has been named to the A team for relays. Both of these girls began swimming with the Meeker Marlins at a young age and advanced to the competitive USA Swimming.
There are 16 girls on the team and many are new to swim team. Three are seniors, Kincher from Meeker and Eliana Mack and AJ Calara from Moffat County.
New to Moffat County as head coach is Melany Neton. She has been associated with swim teams and swimming for more than 13 years, officiated for seven years as a stroke intern and starter, and coached for three years.
If you are wanting to catch swimming, the closest meet to watch them compete is in Glenwood this Saturday and again on Jan. 18, 2020.
