Be a good neighbor
Dear Editor:
At this point your readers might have learned that the number of COVID-19 diagnoses in Colorado and in the nation is on the way up and I do not need to repeat the facts and numbers… COVID-19 kills or at least it is not good for our health. Rio Blanco residents have been fortunate and we had only a few cases and no fatalities. However, currently numbers in the region are going up and the hospitals able to care for critically ill COVID patients are filling up.
I think it is prudent to stop or slow the spread of the virus until vaccines are available within the next three to six months. There is good evidence that they will help to provide for some amount of immunity and we expect that those products will be tested and tried for safety.
I am writing this letter in support of a fellow physician. His name is Anthony Fauci. He is the top expert on infectious disease in the U.S. and worldwide. He understands the science of infectious disease and he knows that the best defense of not getting sick with any virus is to stop the spread.
Dr. Fauci is recommending to wear face masks as the cheapest, most effective way to stop or slow the spread of the virus and buy us more time. I support Dr. Fauci full-heartedly with his recommendation… along with that of social distancing and no gatherings, all tough sacrifices affecting us severely as we need social interactions so badly in our lives.
We all have choices to make. Wearing a seatbelt is the choice to protect my life and health. Wearing the mask is protecting not only me but also helping to not pass on the virus to a stranger, a neighbor or your best friend. Wearing a mask might stop the transmission to a vulnerable person who might get really sick and might die. Regular folks, at this point, do not have access to medications which are available to a few privileged folks in the nation.
Wearing a mask in public allows you to not only protect yourself, it is a perfect way of being a good neighbor, being a good Christian and a way of serving your country, protecting the people, protecting the nation and it is a most American way of life.

Complete the CSP survey
Dear Editor:
Colorado is a vibrant, diverse state – whether describing our residents or our terrain. As your Colorado State Patrol, we provide many services and programs in an effort to make our communities a safe place to live, work, play, and travel!
I wanted to draw your attention to an important opportunity. From Oct. 27 to Nov. 24, 2020, the Colorado State Patrol will conduct a public opinion survey to better understand how well we are serving our communities. I am inviting you to complete the survey by visiting www.cspsurvey.com.
Our mission is to ensure a safe and secure environment for all persons as we provide professional law enforcement services that reflect our Core Values of Honor, Duty, and Respect. We want to know how safe you feel about traveling on Colorado’s highways, the professionalism of our members, and our services at the State Patrol. Your answers will help us better understand how we can serve you now and in the future.
Completing this survey takes 5-10 minutes. We appreciate you taking the time.
This is a state-wide survey, so the more people who participate the better the insights we will have going forward. Ideally, by the end, we will have feedback from each region around this diverse state. Please, share the link to this survey with your friends and family.
Thank you in advance for your participation. Your feedback is important to me and the future of the Colorado State Patrol.
Sincerely,
Colonel Matthew Packard
Chief
Colorado State Patrol
