RANGELY I On Oct. 20-21 the Department of Veterans Affairs rolled their VA Mobile Medical Unit into Rangely for the first time. Anchored by the VA Western Colorado Health Care Systems (WCHCS) and outpatient clinics in Glenwood Springs, Craig, Montrose, and Moab, Utah, the VA Mobile Medical Unit provides non-urgent, preventative health care services to veterans living in rural areas of Colorado and Utah. On the third Tuesday and Wednesday of each month from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. the mobile unit will be parked at the Rangely Area Chamber of Commerce building at 255 East Main St., west of the Kum & Go. According to the VA website, adverse weather conditions may affect scheduled area’s times.
Onsite Telehealth technicians and nurses provide “hands on” care while the patient is connected via secure video network to VA providers at the WCHCS in Grand Junction. The mobile units services include; on-going coordination of overall medical care, wellness promotion, immunizations, periodic appropriate health screening procedures, management of chronic illnesses, referrals to specialty clinics, lab and hematology.
Veterans can take advantage of the convenient, closer-to-home healthcare services by enrolling for the VA Western Colorado Health Care System’s Mobile Medical Unit. First by speaking to your VA provider followed by scheduling an appointment by calling 866-206-6415 opt 2. The VA asks that you bring the following to your appointments: VA ID card, medications, or medication bottles (including “over the counter” or herbals), documentation from recent non-VA hospitalization/ procedures. Rangely’s Rio Blanco County Veterans Services Officer Hoot Gibson says this is a great resource for area veterans and hopes that many will utilize the VA Mobile Medical Units healthcare services.
