MEEKER I I spend a lot of time with the dinosaurs. No, I am not an amateur archeologist or paleontologist and taking care of grandchildren involves traveling to museums or excavation sites to see the prehistoric creatures’ remains. The bones and fossils still appeal, but the dinosaurs I am referring to are a species of humans. Unfortunately, I am one of them.
The grandchildren now are leading me on daily expeditions into this new land I am occupying. As technology zooms forward, I flounder with mastering the newest timesaving devices, but inevitably botch them up. I have never been particularly adept at mechanics, yet I have needed to overcome my fear and hesitation.
The editors with whom I work have tried to be understanding and then we are all going well. Trying to meet a weekly deadline becomes impossible while traveling in the land of the dinosaurs. Communications from me can become garbled and then erratic. I depend on the convenience of my laptop and phone to submit these columns yet long for the old days of typewriters and legal pads.
So if it seems my regular column has disappeared from view, know that the dry spell is temporary. After all, I dwell in the land of the dinosaurs.
