News Notes: September 9

LDS conference

MEEKER | The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will hold a two day local conference Sept. 11-12. Speakers will include church leaders serving in the Vernal Temple, the Denver South mission area, and local church officials of the Craig Stake. Meetings will be held in the Craig chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1295 W Ninth St. The Sept. 11 session for adults will be from 6-8 p.m. and the Sunday session for all ages will be from 10 a.m.-noon on Sept. 12. Sessions will also be broadcast to LDS chapels in Baggs, Rangely, Steamboat Springs, Meeker and Granby.

Library book club

MEEKER | The book club will be reading “Being Mortal” by Atul Gawande. We will discuss the book on Monday, Sept. 13 at 1  p.m. All are welcome to join in the fun.

Free concert

MEEKER | Debby Campbell, daughter of Glen Campbell, will provide a tribute concert on the courthouse lawn Friday, Sept. 10 beginning at 6 p.m. The River City Band, featuring local musicians Tom Allen, Dave Stewart and Danny Griffith, will open the show. Bring your own chairs. Concert provided by the Meeker Business Cooperative, the Lions Club, Masonic Lodge and individual residents. Donations will support local charities: Women Against Breast Cancer, RBC Historical Society and Meeker Emergency Fund.

Golf fundraiser

MEEKER | Civil contracting company IHC Scott (completed the Hwy. 13 improvement project between Meeker and Rifle) along with participating vendors and clients are hosting the first annual “Scramble for a Cause” fundraiser Friday, Sept. 17 at the Meeker Golf Course. Proceeds will benefit the Meeker Education Foundation, which supports educational and enrichment opportunities for the Meeker School District. Boebert office hours

MEEKER | Staff from Rep. Boebert’s office will be available in Rangely on Friday, Sept. 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.at the Rio Blanco County Annex building to allow constituents to request assistance with a federal agency, like veterans having trouble with the VA, travelers having difficulties applying for a passport, taxpayers being harassed by the IRS, and senior citizens having issues with Social Security or Medicare. Additionally, constituents are invited to come to the office hours to express their viewpoints on legislative issues and have their voice heard.

River meeting

MEEKER | The Planning Advisory Committee (PAC) for the White River Integrated Water Initiative will be meeting on Thursday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. in Rangely at the Weiss Conference Room on the CNCC Campus. The PAC will hear reports from the diversion and riparian assessment teams and the Public Input and Reach Meetings. Presentations will be made by Linda Masters on rangeland health and by the Colorado State Forest Service on forest health. If he is not called to fight fires, Curtis Keech will also speak on forest health in the White River Basin. Kyle Arnold from the BLM will address rangeland health if he is available (not out fighting fires).
