MEEKER I Homecoming week was very successful for Meeker High School volleyball with two more wins and a season which remains undefeated.
“It was another wonderful homecoming week,” began head coach Greg Cravens. “With all the activities going on this week, the girls stayed focused when they were in the gym.”
In their first matchup in history, the Cowboys defeated the North Fork Miners 3-0, winning the sets 25-18, 25-17 and 25-13.
“We worked on being better in out-of-system situations and serving,” said Cravens. “North Fork was a good challenge for us because they are well coached and would be able to find holes in our defense.”
Ainsley Selle was the only Cowboy with a block against the Miners, Savannah Mendenhall led in serving aces, Sarah Kracht, Aspen Merrifield and Emma Luce each had 16 digs, and offensively Luce had 28 kills.
“The girls did a great job of adjusting during the match and keeping the Miners from doing what they wanted to do,” commented Cravens.
Saturday the Cowboys hosted the DeBeque Dragons for another league game. The Cowboys dominated the court 25-6, 25-7 and 25-5.
“We were able to get everyone some playing time on Saturday against DeBeque,” said Cravens. “It’s always good for a team to get a shot of energy and that happened for us when we were able to see some new faces on the court.”
This week’s games began on Tuesday when Grand Valley came to Meeker, a game which was also a pink night out. The Cowboys won handily 3-0 beating the Cardinals 25-10, 25-11, 25-13.
“No time to relax, we have three matches this week,” commented Cravens.
Thursday the team took a quick trip to Walden to take on North Park and a very important league match against Olathe on Friday.
If the Cowboys can take care of business this week, they should have a strong hold on the league title.
