The Cowboy football team celebrated a final four season.
“This has been my favorite team to coach,” commented head coach Andy Coryell. “We accomplished a lot this season, played one of the toughest schedules in the state, and were able to host two playoff games.”
The 2023 Cowboy football team made it to the semifinals — something that Meeker has only accomplished one other time in the last 20 years. They had a game where three Cowboys had 300 yards each. They shut out Cedaredge again — the Bruins have only scored six points in the last four years — and beat a very good team two times in one year.
Every player received their letter this year.
“When we make it to the semifinals, each player earns a letter,” said Coryell.
The conference awards were handed out to wrap up the ceremony.
“We had the toughest league in the state with a lot of really good teams and excellent athletes,” began Coryell as he was getting ready to hand out the conference awards, “any other year we would have had more players receive.”
Earning all-conference honorable mention for the Western Slope League Conference this year were: Noah LeBlanc, Jacob Simonsen, Ryan Sullivan and Ethan Quinn. Earning all-conference first team were: Judd Harvey, Jace Mobley, Jake Blazon, Buzz Clatterbaugh, Clay Crawford and Cade Blunt.
Additional awards were given to Clatterbaugh who earned defensive player of the year for the league and Harvey who has been chosen to represent the league in the all state game next spring.
The Mile High Prep Report awards were announced last week and first-team offense went to the Meeker offensive line of Harvey, Simonsen, LeBlanc, Teagan Sheridan and Tate Kerchel. Second-team offense went to Sullivan and Crawford and honorable mention Mobley. First-team defense was Clatterbaugh and Harvey, second-team defense Hayden Shults and honorable mention Blunt.
