RBC I Anna Harrington of Boise, Idaho, is walking across the country in support of the Shrine Hospital. Her adventure was inspired by the life-saving surgery performed on her paraplegic nephew who developed severe scoliosis of the spine, causing his lungs, heart and other vital organs to be crushed under this constriction.
Local doctors, having neither the expertise nor facilities to help, turned to the Shrine Hospital in Sacramento, California, where the operation to straighten his back was successful.
Anna walks unassisted on Highway 40, approximately 20 miles a day. Local Masonic lodges along the way monitor her progress and provide logistical support for her adventure.
Anna entered Colorado from the Vernal area on June 3. This portion of her walk across the northwest portion of Colorado was facilitated by the members of Rio Blanco Lodge No. 80 in Meeker. The lodge coordinated food and lodging through Craig (Yampa Lodge No. 88) to Milner, Colo., where Elk Mountain Lodge No. 118 will take over for the next leg of her journey.
Mike and Norma Snyder of Dinosaur, Rich and Cindy Garner of Rangely, Melinda Parker and Elk Mountain Inn of Meeker, Maybell Community Bible Church, Larry and Mary Matlock and Yampa Lodge No. 88 of Craig all contributed to the local effort.
