MEEKER I The Meeker and Rangely boys’ basketball teams will open their cage seasons tonight as part of the boys’ version of the annual WREA Cowboys Shootout.

Last weekend was the girls’ turn, and the Meeker girls won that tournament.
Meeker High School basketball coach Klark Kindler said, “I’m always excited for the Shootout; it is one of my favorite weekends of the year.”
The Cowboys will be led by seniors Cade Rowlett, Raul Lopez, Joe Newman, Jake Phelan, Tony Collins, Levi Dinwiddie and Matt Frantz.
The Cowboys are coming back this year with several players who played on the state qualifying team last year. The combination of experience, hard work and a successful tradition make this team an exciting one.
“We are excited to see how we do against other competition; we are tired of beating up on each other,” coach Kindler said.
Rangely will open its play at 6 p.m. as the team faces off against the Moffat County Junior Varsity. Meeker will open up against Hayden at 7:30 p.m.
