Meeker girls split with league foes last week

MEEKER I For a second week in a row, the Meeker High School varsity volleyball team split matches, played against league opponents. Meeker lost to the West Grand Mustangs in Kremmling last Friday before defeating the Eagles in Paonia the following day.

Lady Cowboys push champs to five games

MEEKER I “We played much, much better,” Meeker volleyball coach Christy Atwood said of her team’s matches in Hayden last Saturday. The Lady Cowboys lost to the host team in a non-league game, before pushing the defending league champions to five games in a losing effort.

Crawford wins Old Farts in Carts golf tournament

MEEKER I “It was the first tournament Rod was able to be competitive in,” Irvin Griffin said of his brother-in-law Rod Crawford, who won the second flight of the Old Farts In Carts tournament last weekend at the Meeker Golf Course.

Local couples place in Meeker tourney

MEEKER I Twenty-eight teams filled the Meeker Golf Course last weekend and although only a handful were local, two of them placed in two of the three flights in the annual couples tournament. Couples from three states competed in the annual two-day, 36-hole event.

Meeker golf team comes out swinging

MEEKER I School hadn’t started but the 2010 golf season for Meeker High School had. Coach Klark Kindler and his team opened the season in Grand Valley last week and improved their scores in Grand Junction Aug. 17.

Fellows, Terp, Hall win club championships

MEEKER I New champions were crowned last Saturday as the Meeker men’s and women’s clubs held their annual tournament at the Meeker Golf Course.
