RANGELY I Almost half the the Panther wrestling team did not compete last weekend because of illness but four of the five who did wrestle placed in the top three, including two individual champions.

Cowboys place 7 in Paonia
MEEKER I The Meeker High School Cowboy varsity wrestling team beat the Grand Valley Cardinals 42-22 in a dual meet last Thursday before wrestling in the competitive Screaming Eagle tournament in Paonia last Saturday, where they placed seven wrestlers in the top four.

Barone Middle School eighth graders Sheridan Harvey and Casey Turner served chili and popcorn during the Lions Club Bingo night recently in Meeker. The two cousins were raising money for a trip to Washington, D.C., later this year.
Lady Panthers beat Plateau Valley
RANGELY I The lady Panthers basketball team only played one game last weekend but came home from Collbran with a 41-28 victory, with all but one Rangely player getting in the scorebook.
Commissioners approve shorter cell phone tower
RBC I Rio Blanco County commissioners unanimously approved a Special Use Permit (SUP) for Mercury Towers to construct a 105-foot wireless telecommunication tower on private property owned by Joe and Kelly Conrado.
Panthers beat Mustangs
RANGELY I The Panthers found the competition tough last Friday in Baggs, Wyo., losing 50-60 to the Little Snake River Rattlers for a third time this season but came back and defeated the West Grand Mustangs 37-33 in Kremmling last Saturday, starting league play with a win.
Lady Panthers split games
RANGELY I The lady Panthers basketball team took their show on the road last weekend, playing in Baggs, Wyo., Friday last and then traveling to Kremmling for a game against the West Grand Mustangs. Rangely lost to Little Snake River 32-46, then beat West Grand 50-33.
RHS crowns 3 champs
RANGELY I More than 140 wrestlers from 12 different schools in Colorado and Utah competed in the Panther Invitational last Saturday and the Panthers crowned three champions. Cowboys win RHS Invite
MEEKER I For the third time in as many tournaments, the Meeker High School wrestling team won the team title last Saturday, where they dominated the competition, winning by more than 75 points.

The Meeker High School band played during the home game last Friday, adding to Meeker’s home court advantage. The varsity basketball teams will play at home again this Saturday starting at 2:30.
Coombs places sixth at Vernal
RANGELY I The Panther wrestling team opened the 2013 part of the season in Vernal, Utah competing in the 40th annual Tournament of Champions. They came home with one placer.
