Susan Goettel resigns as RE1 superintendent
MEEKER I Susan Goettel, superintendent of the Meeker School District for the last three years, turned in a letter of resignation on Friday, with her last day of work being June 28.
Child killed in UTV accident
MEEKER I Seven-year-old Angelo Theos of Meeker was killed in an utility terrain vehicle rollover accident approximately 12 miles northeast of Meeker off County Road 11 on Tuesday evening.
Fire season delayed by damp weather
RBC I Usually a delay means something is wrong, but good news arrived with the abundance of precipitation in May, meaning that the fire season in the White River Basin will likely be delayed from the earlier-predicted June start to at least July or August.

Memorial Day was quite enjoyable around Rio Blanco County with the towns nearly deserted but area activities — mostly outdoors — keeping a lot of people from leaving the area for the three-day weekend.

Members of the Color Guard from Meeker VFW Post 5843 presented a Memorial Day salute to the soldiers who lost their lives in service to America.

Meeker teachers being reassigned
MEEKER I Eight current teachers were issued class reassignments at the Meeker School Board meeting on May 14, and the trustees also announced there were two new hires in the district for the 2013-14 school year.

The TELL Colorado survey, carried out every two years statewide, is a great learning tool for the school districts concerned. It is a confidential survey done solely by state-certified instructors at Colorado elementary, middle and high schools.
