Youth football teams top New Castle

MEEKER I Both of Meeker’s youth football teams won their games last weekend. The third- and fourth-grade team won its game in overtime, 12-6, against New Castle, while the fifth- and sixth-grade team overpowered New Castle 31-0 in its game.

Prescribed fires will burn near Meeker

MEEKER | Officials with the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit are planning prescribed fires this fall near Meeker to improve wildlife habitat and reduce build-up of vegetation that can fuel large wildfires.

Reckless endangerment charges filed

RBC I Two men, ages 24 and 19, were arrested early Sunday morning for firing gunshots at a hunting camp near Sterry Lake in Rio Blanco County. They were charged with reckless endangerment. The 24-year-old was also charged with prohibitive use of a weapon.

Blue Star Mothers are seeking members

MEEKER I The Blue Star Mothers of America is a nationwide service organization for moms with children serving in the military, including those in active duty, reserves, National Guard and those who are now veterans.

Donate coats to Love, Inc. by Friday

RANGELY I The last day to donate coats for the Love Inc. annual coat drive in Rangely is Friday. Coats can be dropped off at the extension office at the Rio Blanco County Annex, the Rangely District Hospital cafeteria and First Baptist Church.

MHS students asked to wear gold Friday

MEEKER I Students are encouraged to show their school spirit by wearing gold and attending the volleyball and football games Friday against county rival Rangely, said Aubrey Walsh of the Meeker High School Student Council.

Obituary: Clarence W. Davis

Clarence William Davis was born Feb. 9, 1932, to Johnny Ceicle and Reba Faye (Green) Davis in Meeker. Clarence spent his childhood in Meeker and attended school there through the 12th grade.
