MEEKER I Dylan Mobley made all four of his free throws in overtime and Barone Middle School’s eighth-grade boys’ basketball team beat Soroco 40-35 Saturday.
“Ultimately, that made the difference,” said eighth-grade coach Neil Joy. Mobley scored 20 points — including all four shots in the fourth quarter — to lead Meeker and Kevin Eli and Bruno Juarez added six points apiece.
“Soroco stunned us a bit,” Joy said. “They played tough, but we got them into foul trouble in the end. I was proud of the way we battled back in this one.”
In the seventh-grade game, Meeker won 20-13. Jake Phelan scored eight points and had four steals, while Raul Lopez added six points and five rebounds.
“We won the game pretty easily,” said seventh-grade coach Ben Anderson. “But we played sloppy at times.”
In both the seventh- and eighth-grade games against Soroco, Meeker’s A- and B-teams were combined.
Today, Meeker will host rival Rangely, starting at 4:30 p.m. Then on Saturday, the teams will travel to Craig.
