MEEKER I This past Friday Barone Middle School cross country runners ran in and hosted their first meet of the season. Soroco and Rangely joined Barone athletes for their first race as an official team. The races began and ended at the middle school practice field and consisted of roughly 1.8 miles. Among the three schools, 21 girls and 30 boys participated in the races.
The girls raced first and did well. Adi Selle was the first Cowboy to cross the finish line in sixth place with a time of 15:36. Reese Clatterbaugh finished in seventh place with a time of 16:28. Adi Knowles followed with a time of 16:52 and placed ninth. Emma Bauer and Haylee Steele completed the team placing 14th and 15th.
The boys also had a great day and won the meet. Clay Crawford took first place and set the record for the course at 12:34. His teammates, Aidan Topia, Finley Deming, and Wyatt Rollins, followed with some great pack running placing third, fourth and fifth with times of 13:37, 13:39 and 13:41. Tyler Sanders and Connor Rose also placed in the top 10, in seventh and 10th. Sam Smithers placed 12th, Skylar Browning placed 18th, Drew Drake 21st, Cameron Hanberg 26th, Tristin Rollins 27th, and John Bair in 28th rounded out the team.
“The weather was beautiful and the course was full of rolling hills between the middle school and Paintbrush Park. The coaches, Briar Meszaros, Natosha Clatterbaugh and I were extremely pleased with how the kids ran. They have been training hard since the start of school and we are excited to see how they will continue to improve,” said coach Kris Casey.
