MEEKER | The Barone Middle School track and field team wrapped up its 2025 season with strong showings at two meets: the home Meeker Relays last Thursday and Hayden Middle School’s Tiger Invitational on Saturday.
In a season that has already seen 10 school records fall, several Cowboys improved upon those marks at both events.
At the Meeker Relays, the 8th grade girls (Harper Ducey, Addi Shonk, Tacey Toon, Tinlie Strate), 7th grade boys (Ian Barnes, Dillon Koenig, Joshua Powell, Ollie Thomson), and 8th grade boys (Lawson Anderson, Jake Grieser, Liam Thomson, Landon Damitz) distance medley relay teams claimed school records with times of 4:59.66, 5:15.65, and 4:17.87, respectively.
The boys 4×200-meter relay team of Thomas Theos, Case Conway, Ridge Butler and Gael Rodriguez broke a school record at the Meeker Relays with a time of 1:47.17—eclipsing the record set just the previous weekend by Butler, Rodriguez, Koenig and Thomson.
Raegan Clatterbaugh extended her own school record in the 8th grade discus to 96 feet, 10.5 inches at the Meeker Relays, then improved it again to 99-2 at the Tiger Invitational. Anderson, who held 7th grade records in the high jump, 200 meters and 4×100 relay, added the 8th grade 100-meter school record with a time of 11.75 seconds at the Tiger Invitational. Damitz cut 26 seconds off his 800-meter time this season to claim the 8th grade school record at 2:22.13.
The Cowboys brought home the boys team title at the Meeker Relays with first-place finishes in the high jump (Grieser, Anderson, Jordan Simpson, Sebastian Baumgart), 4×100-meter relay (Anderson, Dyan Blaisdell, Thomson, Grieser) and 4×400-meter relay (Anderson, Grieser, Thomson, Damitz).
The girls tied for second in team standings at Meeker, thanks to first-place finishes in the sprint medley relay (Toon, Ducey, Shonk, Graysie Coryell), long jump (Coryell, Micah Le Blanc, Strate) and discus (Clatterbaugh, Sophia Moody, Kinnley Smith, Mia Hernadez).
At the Tiger Invitational, the Cowboys earned the 7th grade boys team title, with first-place finishes from Tadeo Gonzales (discus, 83-1) and Thomas Theos (400 meters, 1:01.16; long jump, 14-9). Anderson also took first for the 8th grade boys in the high jump at 4-10.
On the girls side at Hayden, first-place finishes came from Coryell (7th grade triple jump, 30-5), Shonk (7th grade 200 meters, 28.16), and the 8th grade 4×400 relay team of Coryell, Jemma Bair, Hernadez and Toon (4:56.75).
“I don’t think we’ve had a season where so many school records have fallen in recent memory,” head coach Sean Damitz said. “We’ve had a great team where the athletes have all pushed each other to be their best. That’s been really fun and rewarding to see.”
