MEEKER | Barone Middle School girls basketball teams traveled to Hayden on Jan. 28 to play the Tigers. The seventh and eighth grade B teams combined to play Hayden C in the first game. The seventh graders played the first half while the eighth graders played the second half. Meeker took the win.
The eighth grade had three girls with six points each in scoring: Lily Hernandez-Pena, Sawyer May and Ava Nay, and Aurora Stallings chipped in four points.
The eighth grade A team lost a hard-fought game 13-19.
“Held to zero points in the first half by Hayden, we found our rhythm and outscored Hayden in the second half but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit,” commented head coach Mindy Finley.
Leading in scoring was Dawn Arnold with six, Kayla Castillo with five and Ruth LeBlanc with two.
There are two weeks left in the season. Meeker travels to Craig on Thursday, Feb. 2 and finishes the season with home tournaments on Feb. 10-11.
