MEEKER | Barone Middle School girls basketball hit the court over the weekend, playing a total of eight games.
In game one for 7B team played Steamboat and lost 6-22. Gracee Gardner led with four points and Abby Quinteros scored two.
Game one for 7A played Steamboat, losing 13-14.
Julie Kracht had seven points, Norah Loar four, and Jayci Chintala two.
“This was a really great game,” commented coach Claudia Bullen. “The Cowboys got into double bonus and received multiple opportunities at the line.”
The 7A team in game two played Craig, losing 7-20.
Due to the bracket, the Cowboys played an 8th grade team, and “the girls gave it everything they had,” said Bullen.
Kracht had two points, Sienna Rolen also with two points, and leading was Braylin Pena with three points.
The second game for the 7B, against Sleeping Giant, from Steamboat, was another tough loss, 3-30 with Garner scoring all of the points.
The 7A team also struggled with Sleeping Giant, losing 10-34.
Kracht and Rolen led with four points each and Payton Arnold had two.
“Every day our girls continue to improve their basketball IQ and their skills,” commented Bullen. “I am so proud of them for pushing through after the week we had due to a snowday and a lot of sickness. We are looking forward to traveling to Hayden on Saturday.”
The eighth grade teams, coached my Mindy Finley, played three games against the teams from Steamboat and Craig. They went 1-2 on the weekend, losing to Steamboat 5-16, Craig 11-31 and a win over Sleeping Giant 14-13.
Against Steamboat, Olivia Griffiths scored two points as did Taylor Bain and Kayla Castillo had one.
Castillo and Skylar Grimes led the scoring against Craig with four points each, Ximena Lopez-Rodriguez scored two and Griffiths put up one.
For the win on the weekend Castilla was very close to double digits with six points, Ruth LeBlanc had four, and Lily Hernandez-Pena and Dawn Arnold each had two.
