MEEKER | Friday morning the Barone Middle School runners headed over to the golf course in Rangely to participate in their second meet of the season. The course and weather were perfect for the day and all runners ran very well.
The course was a bit shorter than the Meeker course that they ran a few weeks earlier, mapping in around 1.6 miles. The boys won the meet with only 18 points.
Clay Crawford was the first athlete to cross the finish line in 10:26. He was soon followed by Finely Deming in second place with a time of 11:19. Landin Lopez ran in his first race of the season, placing fourth and running a time of 11:41. Wyatt Rollins placed fifth in 12:03, and Connor Rose was sixth in 12:17. Sam Smithers placed eighth in 12:30 and Tyler Sanders was ninth in 12:45. Skylar Browning had a great finish and passed a Rangely runner in the final stretch to place 11th in 13:24. Sam Hightower also ran his first race on Friday and placed 15th in 14:35. John Bair and Tristin Rollins finished together placing 18th and 19th respectively. Drew Drake and Cameron Handberg rounded out the team finishing 21st and 22nd.
The girls also ran well, but Rangely pulled off the team win by 11 points. Meeker’s top three girls finished together and did a great job of working together. Adi Selle placed fourth in 13:28.28 and Taylor Garcia, running her first race, was right on her heels with a finish time of 13:28.34. Reese Clatterbaugh finished on Taylor’s heels with a finish time of 13:29. Addie Knowles finished eighth in 13:40 and Emma Bauer followed in 10th place in 14:11. Haylee Steele was the last Cowboy to cross the finish line in 14th place in a time of 15:49.
All of our kids ran well and we look forward to seeing how they have improved. We will be back in Meeker this coming Friday morning at 9 a.m. to run the same course they competed on a few weeks ago. The course will start and finish on the middle school practice field.
